WALDEMAR OLSON

Dick Olson, of Neenah (Town of Clayton), passed away peacefully at home May 10, 2010. Dick was born February 24, 1931 in Neenah, the son of the late Colonel Waldemar Wally Albert Olson and Bernice Marie Olson (Schomisch). He attended Roosevelt School, Menasha; St Josephs Military Academy, Alexandria, LA; and St Patricks, Menasha, grades 1-3 and 5-8, where he was also an altar boy and later coached basketball. He graduated from Neenah High School in 1949 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Menasha and Madison. He served in the U. S. Army July, 1953 until July 1955, and then graduated from the University of Madison in June, 1956. Dick worked for Bergstrom Paper Co. 1949 to 1970, first as a summer mill employee while going to college, then in their sales department, managed their Chicago Office, and returned to Neenah as Customer Service Manager. Dick left Bergstrom and joined Joseph Behr Paper Company in Rockford, IL as Sales Manager, 1970 and 1971. Dick opened and ran the Country Squire Gift and Christmas Shoppe, September 1973 to present. It was, and will forever be, referred to as Dicks Shop . Dick was united in marriage to his loving wife Beverly Simpson April 7, 1972. He is survived by Bev and his children: Greg (fianc Debbie Van Rens) Olson, Oshkosh; Sally Olson, Neshkoro; Daniel Olson, Neenah; John (Brenda) Olson, Berlin: and Mark (Debra) Olson; Brother-in-laws: Roger Simpson, Menasha; Mel Moore (Sheila) Neenah, Sister-in-law, Marlene (Dennis) Hillyer, Midlothian, VA; Stepmother-in-law, Irene Simpson, La Crosse; grandchildren, one great grandchild, other special relatives and friends. All will miss him dearly. Dick felt an important part of his lifes journey started at St Patricks school in Menasha and at St Patricks Catholic Church. A new journey will begin for him on Friday, May 14, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 324 Nicolet Boulevard, Menasha, where friends and relatives may call. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., with Father Paul Radetski officiating. A private graveside burial will follow. A memorial fund has been established in Dicks name for St Patrick Catholic Church, Menasha. The family extends a very special thank you to Dr. Lopez, whom he adored, and her staff at Theda Care, and to Theda Care Hospice who were so great comforting him in his final days. Also a special thank you to our wonderful loyal customers who he thoroughly enjoyed during the 37 years he was The Squire . God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so he put his arms around you and whispered come with me . With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay.
