WILLIAM MAYER

USMC Its Miller Time On his birthday, May 10, 2010, Bill died after suffering a massive heart attack. He was born in Fond du Lac, the son of Claude and Kathro (Becker) Mayer, and spent the rest of his life living in Menasha. He attended St. Patricks Grade School and graduated from St. Marys High School. Bill joined the Marine Corps after high school-he was very proud to be a Marine and serve his country. He loved the Corps and was enlisted for three years. On October 19, 1957, he married his friend, his soul mate, and the love of his life, Jan Wingrove, and together they shared 52 years. Bill worked in the insurance business for his father until 1976 when he started his own agency. He and Jan ran the agency until their retirement in 2006. He was a member of the Menasha-Neenah Elks, Germania, the Catholic Knights, and the Eagles. He served on the Menasha Planning Committee and the Board of Review for many years. Survivors include his beloved wife, Jan; three sons: Timothy Mayer, Appleton, Tracy (Barb) Mayer, Menasha, and Eric (Adina) Mayer, Neenah; two daughters, Molly (Brian) Becker, Neenah, and Ann Mayer, Appleton; there are five grandchildren: Allison, Eric, Emily and Alec Becker, Neenah, and William Zuleger, Appleton; four step-grandchildren: Brandon Dutter, Green Bay, Carissa Holewinski, and Anaisa and Hayden Nagy, Neenah; a sister, Ann (Edward) Stotesbery, Eagan, MN; and two brothers, John (Sandy) Mayer, Kaukauna, and Dick (Judy) Mayer, Omaha, NE. His two faithful Scotties, Ally Mae and Lucy Pie, will miss him dearly. The Funeral Mass for Bill will be celebrated Friday, May 14, 2010, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 So. State St., Appleton, with Fr. David Pleier and Deacon Jerry Schraufnagel officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday until the hour of mass at the church. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Bills honor. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
