DANIEL BENGS

Daniel E. Bengs, age 96, of Menasha, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born April 5, 1913, in Milwaukee, the son of August H. and Lucy (Hall) Bengs Gould. Daniel was one of seven children in the Bengs family. He was united in marriage to Norma Ramthun on June 29, 1940, at Sherman Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They were blessed with two daughters, Sandra and Joan. Prior to his retirement in 1976, Daniel was employed for many years with the Ampco Metal Company in Milwaukee as a chief inspector. Throughout his life, Daniel had many interests and kept very active. He loved woodworking, cross-country skiing, biking, sailing in his Sunfish; he was a competitive paddle boat enthusiast and swimmer; Daniel was a pilot and loved to go flying. He was a voracious reader and avid cribbage and scrabble player. Daniel was a Civil War history follower and had great knowledge of Abraham Lincoln, and he really liked Fords! Daniel and Norma shared a deep love for each other and they were long time members of Sherman Park Lutheran Church, where he sang in their choir. He absolutely loved his children and grandchildren; he was truly a gentleman and treated everyone with great respect. And his sense of humor was outstanding. He will be missed by everyone that was blessed to be a part of his life. Survivors include his daughters: Joan (Rev. Duane) Matz, and Sandra Bengs, Menasha; his grandchildren: Robin and Jay (Kristin); his sister, Naoma Knuth; special friend, Irma Marko; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Norma, on July 4, 2002; a sister, Sarah Steinbacher, and brothers: August, Harland, Edward, and Frederick Bengs. The Christian Funeral Service for Daniel will be Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Living Word Free Lutheran Church (Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home), with Rev. Duane Matz officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Thursday until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Daniel's honor may be sent to the Living Word Free Lutheran Church.
