ROGER PETERSEN

Roger (Pete ) Petersen, age 79, of Neenah passed away Wednesday morning, July 22, 2009, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton after complications from a stroke. Roger was born January 30, 1930, in Chicago, IL; son of the late Stanley and Dorothy (Witt) Petersen. He served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 as a two time Bronze Star recipient. After his discharge Roger settled in Neenah where he met his bride-to-be, the former Shirley Pontow, whom he wed in 1954. Roger was employed by American Can for 30 years at the time of his retirement in 1987. During his lifetime Roger was an avid bowler and golfer, having had numerous high games and series recorded in the newspaper for his bowling, as well as a hole-in-one in golf. His proudest accomplishment was his two daughters and their families. Survivors include daughters: Lisa (David) Crouch of Grapevine, TX, Julie (Russell) Post of Marathon, WI; grandchildren: Meghan Post of San Francisco, CA, Adam Post of Marathon, WI, Peter, Nathan and Jared Crouch all of Grapevine, TX; sisters: Darlyne (Larry) Benedict of Winneconne, Shelby (Rod) Sigl of Green Bay; numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (1987), his father Stanley (1994), and mother Dorothy (1999). Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with full military rites.
