CHARLES CHAFFEE

Charles A. Chaffee, of Menasha, age 91, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1918 in Adrian, Michigan, son of the late Lucius and Maude (Chambers) Chaffee. On May 13, 1944, Chuck married Lelah Lee Gerhartz in Sheboygan, and they celebrated 66 years together. Chuck served his country in during WWII from 1942 to 1946 with the Coast Guard aboard an LST serving in the South Pacific. He retired from Tecumseh Products in Tecumseh, MI, after 46 years of employment. Survivors include his wife, Lee; two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Swentner, Arlyn Meyers; a niece, Julia Badura; a nephew, Howard (Connie) Chaffee; two special nieces: Carol (Marvin) Swichtenberg, Mary (Ralph) Shaw; a special nephew, James (Gloria) Swentner; and numerous other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his brothers: Gordon Chaffee and Lisle Chaffee; and a sister, Marjory Chaffee. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Quinney-Burnard officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Full military rites will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for the Alzheimers Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Garden View Assisted Living and Theda Clark Medical Center for all their wonderful care.
