IRENE SORENSON

Irene J. Sorenson, 91, of Appleton, a former life-long resident of Neenah, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. Irene was born August 6, 1919, in Wisconsin Rapids, the daughter of Sidney and Anna (Dokken) Sylvester. Her family moved to Madison, WI in 1919. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and was employed as an analyst for Kimberly-Clark. She was united in marriage to Jens Sorenson on July 10, 1948, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison. He preceded her in death in 1978. The Sorensons were long-time members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Neenah. Irene was an avid bridge player and active with different clubs during her life. She was a member of the former Ex Libris Book Club and Chapter BT PEO International, a philanthropic educational organization. Irene volunteered with the auxiliary at Theda Clark Medical Center, and was recently recognized for her accomplishment of 4000 hours at the hospital. Irene is survived by her daughter, Jean Sorenson, Minneapolis, MN; and her son, James Jim (Peggy Hill) Sorenson, Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Beatrice, Ruth, and Edith, and a brother, Lyman. The Memorial Service for Irene will be held Friday August 27th at 11:00 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 809 S. Commercial St, Neenah, with Rev. Catherine A.K. Mode officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service at the church.
