ENID PANSY

Enid M. Pansy, 93, of Neenah, was called to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Enid was born May 1, 1917 in the town of Menasha, daughter of the late Martha and Allen Haase, a farming family. After graduating from Neenah High School in 1935, she worked for Neenah Printing Company. Enid married Elmer M. Pansy in 1937. They bought two acres of land on Cecil Street, built a home and in 1940 Pansys Lawn and Garden Store was constructed right next door. They were the first Garden store in the Valley to sell trees, shrubs and garden supplies. After the war they expanded to landscaping with little or no competition. The store addition was built in 1948 to double the size. Store construction remains the same today. The business was sold in 2003 after 63 years. Enid passed away in her new home that she built and loved, across the street from the store. Not only was Enid a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and hard worker, she was a joy and delight to know. She definitely knew her plants, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardening tips. The business had a loyal clientele for over 50 years. When you came to Pansys to shop, 35-40 Bantie chickens would greet you. Upon retiring in her home across the street, she took four of her favorite chickens and her best friend and protector, Ginny, a Dachshund. Enid loved to garden, travel and bowl. She had the opportunity to extensively travel before her stroke in 2004. She was Secretary/Treasurer of the Neenah Tuesday Club, and a 15 year member of the WMCA Garden Club. In retirement you could always find her in the back yard gardening and laughing with neighbors and friends. Enid is survived by two daughters: Charlotte (Dr. William) Iversen, Phoenix, AZ, Vicky Pansy, Neenah; a son, Paul (Fritz) Pansy, Fremont; five grandchildren: Kelly (William) Streider, Mooresville, NC, Karie Schurer, Neenah, Jason (Courtney) Odau and Carlie Odau, both of Denver, CO; three great-grandchildren: Lexi Streider, Ellie and Katelyn Odau. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elmer; a daughter, Tarry Schurer; and a brother, Carlton Haase. The Funeral Service for Enid will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 809 S. Commercial St., Neenah, with the Rev. Catherine A.K. Mode officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. when a video of her, her family, friends and her love for life, will be shown. A lunch will follow in the fellowship hall. Family and friends will then leave for the committal in Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum. Enids wish was to have memorials directed to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Theda Care at Home Hospice, 3000 E. College Ave., Appleton, WI, 54915; or the Animal Welfare League of Neenah, 951 County Road G, Neenah, 54956. The family would like to thank Hospice and all the wonderful caregivers for allowing Mom to rest peacefully at home.
