MADELYN FUERST

Madelyn M. “Mickey” (Witbrod) Fuerst, age 94 of Appleton, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024. She was born November 23, 1929 to the late Edward and Dorthea (Eckes) Witbrod in Neenah and was raised with her four sisters, Ethel, Dottie, Helen, and Margie. She married A. E. “Todd” Fuerst, Jr. on June 17, 1950. They were longtime members of Sacred Heart Church in Appleton.

Mickey and Todd raised five children together. In their retirement, they enjoyed spending time at their land in Mountain, WI.

After she became a widow, Mickey, in time, lost three of their children. She was a brave and strong independent woman and held various occupations, her favorite of which was her position in the Diet Office at St. Elizabeth Hospital, working with her close friend (and partner in crime) Betsy. Mickey enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, crafting, sewing, and was still refinishing furniture into her 80's. She was very generous and often helped others.

Mickey is survived by her children: Cheri (Jeff) Kehl, and Todd (Carol) Fuerst; 13 grandchildren: Alison, Andrea, Andy, Ryan, Lora, Tanya, Tara, Erik, Angela, Jordon, Erin, Jessie, and Krystle; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Marge Blank; and daughters-in-law, Cindy and Sheri Fuerst.

Mickey will be missed by her family, relatives, and special friends: Jim and Betsy Vosters, Randy and Ann Reschke, Tom (deceased) and Nancy Lowe, and her special neighbor, James. She loved her godchildren and all her nieces and nephews intensely. She was preceded in death by her husband, Todd; and children: Keith, Gary, and Carla.

A private celebration of Mickey's life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice, the caregivers at Gardens of Fountain Way, and to Annette Lowe, who made her stay there enjoyable.
