CAROL GALLOWAY

Carol Galloway passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Carol was born on Christmas Eve in 1921 in Oak Park, IL to the late George and Dorothy (Van Brunt) Ziska. When she was 11, her family moved to Long Branch, NJ where she lived until her marriage to Ned Galloway in 1950. Following graduation from the College of New Jersey at Trenton in 1943, she worked as an editorial assistant at the Institute for the Aeronautical Sciences in New York City. Later she was a Conover model and then a receptionist at a local Army base. It was there that she met Ned. At the time of their marriage she was teaching in the Long Branch school system. When her children were young she was a Cub Scout den mother, a Junior Girl Scout troop leader and a library mother. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Appleton, where she taught Sunday school and served on multiple committees. She was active in the womens organization where she served for many years as its president. Through her church she became involved with Project Bridges summer pre-school and day care for children of Mexican-American migrants and later Southeast Asians refugees. Through Church Women United, she became involved with Hmong Arts, the American-Indochinese Friendship Association, and the Community Clothes Closet. In 1980 she was awarded the Post-Crescent Volunteer of the Year. She truly enjoyed the opportunity to meet and work with dedicated caring people. Being a dog person, her family was seldom without at least one dog. She also enjoyed feeding not just birds, but squirrels, chipmunks, and whatever furry creatures were in need of winter sustenance. She was preceded in death by Ned, her husband of 60 years; her parents; a son, Bruce; Neds parents, Edwin Pierce and Genevieve Gruenheck Galloway; two brothers, George William (Bill) Ziska, Jr. and Philip Van Brunt Ziska; a daughter-in-law, Mary Stumpf; a sister-in-law, Mary Galloway James; a brother-in-law, Dr. Norman Erickson; and four nephews. She is survived by two sons, E. Jeffery Galloway and Tod Galloway; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jenny Galloway and Miguel Colon and Cyndy Galloway and Peter Fisher; five granddaughters, Robyn and Sara Galloway, Kathryn and Claire Galloway, and Ana Colon-Galloway; her brother Bills family, and Neds extended family. To accommodate the wonderful staff at Touchmark, a service of remembering will be held in the Great-room at a time and date to be determined. The service will be led by Rev. David Brice, a former pastor and good friend from the Project Bridges days. Music will be provided by former associate pastor Grace Caijuit and Carols family.
