JOHN HUPPLER

John Huppler passed away December 8, 2011. He was born December 27, 1916 and grew up in Muscoda, Wisconsin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1939 and was president of both the Tau Beta Pi chapter and the Chi Epsilon chapter at the U. He was employed by the Kimberly Clark Corporation in 1939 and retired as their Chief Engineer in Research and Development in 1974. He continued to consult part time as a professional engineer for several years. He married Elizabeth Bunting Ebbott September 10, 1938, and the two shared and enjoyed 70 years of life together. For 54 of those years they lived in a home they helped design in Neenah, where all five of their children graduated from high school. John was an accomplished woodworker and Navajo weaver, and he and Elizabeth were avid gardeners, world travelers and bird watchers. He dabbled and developed skill in several other crafts, but always counted his greatest accomplishment as the family he and Elizabeth formed, including five children, two foreign exchange children, eleven grandchildren, four foreign exchange grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. John relished time spent with family and entertained as many as could come for a week in Door County, Wisconsin each year. Both John and Elizabeth valued their education and Civil Engineering degrees at the University of Wisconsin. They jointly established the Elizabeth Ebbott Huppler endowment scholarship to benefit women in the Civil and Environmental Engineering program at the U. John is survived by his brother, Robert; his children, Jack (Priscilla), Kay Eberman, Marcia Koehn, David (Barbara) and Karl (Lynette); and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents (Herman and Gertrude), his sister (Faye Schweitzer), a son-in-law (Richard Koehn), and the love of his life, Elizabeth. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Neenah at 1:30 p.m., with gathering time commencing an hour earlier. Memorial gifts will be donated to the Mosquito Hill Nature Center, near New London, Wisconsin " an organization that John and Elizabeth both enjoyed very much.
