Obituary

Mabel Simboli Colgan, 87, Neenah, WI, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011 with her loving family by her side. Mabel or Maye as she liked to be called was born on October 4, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Raymond and Mabel (Tito) Simboli. She was the second of the four Simboli children, which included brothers Ray and Don and her dear and beloved sister Beverlee. She grew up in an artistic, creative household and had a wonderful childhood with lots of friends and cousins. Many summers were spent in Wilton, CT at her grandma & grandpa Titos family farm. Maye graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and worked for an engineering firm after graduation. She met the love of her life, Harry Colgan while working at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. Harry was working his way through medical school as their elevator operator and when she stepped in, it was love at first sight. They married June 17, 1944. They lived a rich full loving life together for 67 years. Their love and devotion to one another was exemplary and admired. They raised 4 adoring children together, Susan, Ray, Karin and Kathy. Maye was a dedicated mother and loving wife. She loved people, life, and was proud of her hometown of Neenah. She participated in many service and community projects throughout her lifetime. She belonged to the International Order of the Kings Daughters and was a volunteer for the Auxiliary at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh and at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. She was President of the Winnebago County Wives Medical Auxiliary and started the Oshkosh branch of the Wisconsin Mothers of Twins Club. Maye was noted for her superb organization and helpful nature. She started Behind the Scenes, an event planning business after planning her own daughters wedding. Maye loved travelling, dancing, her bridge groups, her friends night out and her grandchildrens sporting events. She is loved and will be missed by many. Maye is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Harry Colgan, Neenah; three daughters, Sue Walgenbach (Thomas), Carmel, CA, Karin Bargsten (Bruce), Franklin, TN, Kathy Jamieson (Charlie), Madison, WI: son, Raymond, Neenah,WI; seven grandchildren Lisa Walgenbach Cornehl (Kevin), Hermosa Beach, CA, Amy Walgenbach, San Francisco CA, Emma Jamieson and Sam Jamieson, Madison, WI, Brad Bargsten Andrew Bargsten and Lily Bargsten, Franklin, TN, great grandson Carter Cornehl, Hermosa Beach, CA; sister, Bev and brother-in-law, Dan McFadden, Berkeley, CA; and by beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her father Raymond Simboli, mother Mabel Simboli and brothers Raymond and Donald. The memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah. The visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research has been set up at the Westgor Funeral Home. A special thank you goes out to the kind and understanding ICU Unit at Theda Clark Hospital for their care of our beloved Maye. Mabel Colgan will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She leaves behind many wonderful memories to be shared. In her own words, I have loved you all. Love each other and think of me once in a while with happy thoughts and a smile.

My sincere condolences to the entire Colgan family. I loved Maye and always enjoyed our visits and great conversations. I always had a special place in my heart for her and it will stay there forever. My love and prayers are with her and all of you. Keep your memories of Maye close-they will brighten your days.

Maye was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. But what a wonderful, joyous legacy she leaves to all of us. She loved her family dearly and lived life to the fullest. Jim and I are thinking of all the Colgans during this difficult time.
