FLORENCE JOHNSON

Florence G. Johnson, age 89, of Oshkosh, passed away October 9, 2011 at Oakwood Manor in Oshkosh. She was born June 3, 1922, in Oshkosh, daughter of the late Louis and Lillian (Bresnahan) Cowling. She married Ronald C. Johnson on September 28, 1946. Florence graduated from Neenah High School, class of 1940, and later graduated from Oshkosh Teachers College. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the WAVES, the womens branch of the U.S. Navy. She was stationed most of that time at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas. Florence was a homemaker for much of her life, sometimes working as a substitute school teacher. She was employed by Goldsmiths Department Store in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1968 to 1983. Survivors include two children: Duane (Elvera) Johnson, and Diane (John) Lowe; three grandchildren: Wendy Adams (Lowe), Heidi Johnson, and Blake Johnson; two great grandchildren: Parker Ann Adams and Ellie Marie Adams; a sister, Beatrice Becker, Winchester; a sister-in-law, Betty Gintner, Neenah; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service for Florence will be Thursday, October 13, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, Neenah, with Rev. Paul Huxtable officiating. Visitation will begin Thursday at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church chapel. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah.
