Obituary
John H. Jurgenson, 81, Neenah. Enduring his illness of Alzheimers with courage, John Henry Jurgenson passed away at Grand Horizons on October 27, 2011. John was born June 27, 1930 to Otto and Bessie Jurgenson. A life-long resident of Neenah, John was named Director of Neenah Water Utility in 1953. He held that position for 34 years. After retiring in 1987, he served on the Neenah-Menasha Sewage Commission until 2008. An avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing, John was a member of Paynes Point Hook and Spear Club, the Pintail Club, and Sturgeon for Tomorrow. John crafted sturgeon spears and was featured in the book People of the Sturgeon. Moose hunting and fishing on the English River in Canada with family and friends gave him great pleasure. He also enjoyed sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago and duck hunting on Lake Poygan and in Cando, North Dakota. John was admired by those who knew him as a strong and caring man who was always willing and anxious to help. John is survived by his children: Mike (Wendy) Jurgenson; Sharon Jurgenson; Dan (Beth) Jurgenson; and daughter-in-law Sue Jurgenson; grandchildren: Jodi (Carl) Stamm; Michelle (Eric) VanDyke; Kristen (Jason) Ellis; Joe Jurgenson; Jeff Jurgenson; and Ken Jurgenson; and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn; and special friend, Carol Bunnell. John was preceded in death by parents, Otto and Bessie; wife, Marjorie; brother, Walter; sisters, Betty and Helen; and son, Peter. A funeral service for John will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 12:30 P.M. at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Johns name. Johns family wants to express their gratitude to Grand Horizons and Southern Care Hospice who took such good care of him.

My family spent summers on Lake Poygan and I have many fond memories of John and his family. I remember John building a houseboat that was nicknamed "The Leaky Teaky". We went for many rides on that boat and had lots of fun. I believe my parents, Bob and Darlene Homan, were very lucky people to have John and Margie as friends. I know they treasured their friendship. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family.
