THOR HOLM

Thor A. Holm, 71, of Neenah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27,2011, at his home with his loved ones by his side. Thor was born June 30, 1940, in San Francisco, CA, the son of Thor and Doris Holm. During high school in Sacramento, Thor was a very talented golfer and baseball pitcher. He married Polly Meade in 1962 and they were blessed with two sons, David and Marc. Thor proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in San Francisco Bay. His talent and skills in golfing led him to pursue a career as a professional golfer and following his duty with the Coast Guard became a lifetime member of the PGA. Thor was golf pro at El Macero Country Club in Davis and caddied for many famous golfers; he later moved on to become the course pro at the San Leandro and Salinas Golf & Country Clubs. He operated Thors Driving Range and taught many, many people the great game of golf including players for the Oakland Raiders. MacGregor Sports was his sponsor and he played in tournaments with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. He loved trout fishing in the Sierras -the Truckee River and many other streams as well as Lake Tahoe. Following his golf career, Thor married Virginia Williams. He started a window cleaning business called See the Light which he owned the next 25 years. Thor never met a stranger; his charm and charisma were traits of Thors that drew people to him. He loved to be the jokester, but was an organized and frugal man. After moving to Nevada in 2002, he came to Wisconsin in 2004. And while living in Neenah, Thor met Catherine Williams in 2006, and they were married in 2010. The last four years, Thor and Cathy really enjoyed his retirement; he began making Rocky Critters-small stone characters. Cathy and Thor loved to go to farmers markets, antiques dealers to find nice old furniture to restore and auctions. Survivors include his wife Cathy; his sons, David (Ginger) Holm, Oshkosh, and Marc Holm, Brillion; stepsons, Greg Williams and Rick (Paula) Williams; a granddaughter, Paulina Braverman; step-grandchildren: Matthew Williams, Joshua Brown and Melissa Van Zant; two step great-grandchildren, Mason and Tieraney; his brothers, Brian (Elizabeth) Holm, Corona, CA, and Warren (Kelly) Holm, Menifee, CA; he is further survived by nieces, nephews and other extended family. The Memorial Service for Thor will be Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. Thursday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
