ALLAN MARCUS

Allan Carl Marcus, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away suddenly at his home on April 8, 2011 following a heart attack. He was born on September 7, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Arthur and Virginia Marcus. He was a 1959 graduate of Greendale High School, completing his education at the Milwaukee Institute of Technology in 1966 with degrees in Television and Commercial Art. Allan married Mary Loker on August 12, 1967, after having met her at the wedding of his cousin. Allan worked at WAOW-TV Wausau as the Station Art Director from 66-69, after which he worked at Fabriko of Green Lake as a Production Artist from 70-74. Allan then worked at Wisconsin Tissue Mills as a Creative Artist until he retired. (A wonderful day in his eyes!) When Allan was not working, he was very active in Philatelic clubs throughout the state. He was a member of the Oshkosh (since 1970), Outagamie (since 1985), Green Bay, and Iron Mountain clubs. He loved to travel around the state talking and visiting with all of the club members and dealers. Allan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, contributing as a Sunday School Teacher and a Church Elder. When they werent working on their garden, Allan and Mary enjoyed taking trips throughout the country to visit family, friends and enjoy history. Allan loved spending time with his children and their families, driving to Illinois often to visit them. He had a strong interest in the Civil War, and this passion culminated with a trip last Fall to the Gettysburg battlefield. Allan is survived by his loving wife Mary; his two children Dan (Megan) Marcus and Lisa (Jesse) Cox; his three grandchildren Morgan Cox, Evan Marcus, Logan Cox; his mother Virginia Marcus-Fehlhaber; his sister Carol Van Ryzin; his nieces Joann Van Ryzin, Mary Van Ryzin, Gwen Van Ryzin, Paula (Bill) Schwartz; his brother-in-law Don Loker. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Marcus, and his brother-in-law Doug Van Ryzin. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Neenah on April 30th at 11 am with the Reverend Richard Moore officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 am to 11 am.
