JOHN MEYER

October 13, 1932 - December 01, 2010

Obituary

John A. Meyer passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 1, 2010. He was born on October 13, 1932 in Shawano; son of the late Barney Meyer and Agnes Kort. He married Joyce Van Den Heuvel on February 15, 1955 in Appleton. John and Joyce spent many great years on Mason Street in Appleton, before moving to the lake in 1990, where John enjoyed being minutes away from his great fishing spots. John was proud to serve his county in the Marine Corp., Once a Marine-always a Marine. John started Meyer Tree Service in 1963, which thrives today as Meyer Services, Inc. John enjoyed entertaining and spending time with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and gambling. John consistently put others before himself and he dedicated much of his time and resources to St. Pius X Catholic Church and numerous other local organizations. John will be deeply missed by his five children; Debra (Mark) Harvat , Jupiter, FL, and their son, Matthew; Sandy Schaub, Appleton; Dan (Terri) Meyer, Appleton, and their daughters, Melissa (Matt) Kuhns, Sara, Jennifer and Michelle; Paul (Kate) Meyer, Menasha, and their children, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Lukas and Jacob; and Amy (Dennis) Schucknecht, Greenville; his sister, Patricia Wetzel, his in-laws: Donald Van Den Heuvel; Harry and Isie Winius; Ken and Lucy Lang; and special friend Joyce Brain. John was preceded in death by Joyce, his wife of 51 years, his parents, Agnes Kort, and Barney Meyer, his step-father, Irv Kort, his sister, Phyllis Thiess and in-laws: Chris and Rose Van Den Heuvel, Gene Wetzel, Janet Van Den Heuvel and Craig Schaub. We would like to thank everyone involved with Johns care. Your dedication and concern for John is very much appreciated. The Funeral Mass for John will be celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 11:30 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton with Father Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until the hour of the mas. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Johns honor.

My Sympathies to you all,it was just the other day that John was here waving at me from the truck, he certainly will be missed by all the staff and his friends at Hanks Paynes Point and Vinland Still and Grill. John was always so full of wit and smiled and joked around with the many friends he had here. He teased most of the employees about something :) Rest in Peace John you will be a special Angel looking down at all of us.

Our loving thoughts are with your entire family. We were fortunate enough to call John "friend". Memories of Florida "happy hours" and fishing together will be treasured forever. He was a special person who will be dearly missed.
