ELIZABETH McLEOD

Elizabeth Betty McLeod, 84, formerly of Neenah, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Living Tree Estates in Greenville. Betty was born January 28, 1927, in Framingham, Mass., the daughter of John and Esther (De Mille) Barnicle. Betty was a graduate of Boston University. She served with the U.S. State Department at the American Embassy in Madrid, Spain from 1949 until 1953. It was in Madrid that she met Robert C. Bob McLeod. They were united in marriage after returning to Boston on Oct. 10, 1954. The McLeods relocated to the Lansing, Michigan area for several years and moved to Neenah in 1965. Betty pursued a career with Associated Bank as a trust officer. She was active with business associations and was instrumental in helping to establish the first halfway house in Neenah. Betty was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah and volunteered with church programs and religious formation. She was a member of the Faculty Wives Club and the former Menasha Club, and was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader. Betty loved dancing, the arts and music. She was a proficient knitter and seamstress and enjoyed working needlepoint. She also was an avid reader and liked to go camping. Bridge Club was an important part of her life, as well as entertaining at home. Betty and Bob traveled extensively-all over the world! And they wintered for many years in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bob McLeod, Appleton; her daughters: Janet (Ronnie) Hahn, Appleton, Joan McLeod and Jeanne (Randy) Reiter, all of Neenah; grandchildren: Rachel Reiter, (fiance Adam Lange), Mitchell Reiter, Clark Reiter, Laura Hendrickson, Alex Hahn, and Heather McLeod; her great-grandchildren: Alessandra Nelson, Marcus Nelson, Izaiah Melendez, Xayvier Melendez, Eliyas Melendez-McLeod, Elijah Hendrickson, and Samuel Hendrickson; and her brother, John F. (Natalie) Barnicle, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Margaret Barnicle. The Memorial Mass for Betty will be celebrated Tuesday, October 25, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah, with Fr. Michael Ingold presiding. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home, and again Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of mass at the church. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bettys honor may be sent to the Fox Valley Alzheimers Association, 201 E. Bell St., Neenah, 54956. The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Living Tree Estates and SouthernCare Hospice for their compassionate care given to Betty.
