HUGO SOMMERFELD

Hugo Sommerfeld, 90, Menasha, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at his home with his loving family at his bedside. Hugo was born in Poland on January 25, 1922, the son of the late Adolph and Pauline (Hammerlinder) Sommerfeld. He was united in marriage to Frida Peters on November 17, 1951, in Stade, Germany. She survives. Hugo and Frida came to the United States in 1957 and have lived in the Menasha area. Prior to his retirement, Hugo was employed with Eggers Industries in Neenah for many years. Hugo enjoyed photography, metal and wood working, riding his bike and nordic skiing. Survivors include his wife, Frida; five sons and two daughters: Fredi (Judy) Sommerfeld, Minneapolis, Detlef (Cheryl) Sommerfeld, Appleton, Frank (Colette) Sommerfeld and Helmut Sommerfeld, all of Neenah, and Bruno (Kaylen) Sommerfeld, Shiocton; Zara Sommerfeld, Reading, MA, and Heidi Thiel, Menasha; grandchildren: Rachel, Carissa, Derek (Angie), Paul, Kevin, Dylan, Jennifer (Andy), Tyler, Mackenzie, and Samantha; three great grandchildren: Morgan, Brayden, and Sophia; a sister, Lydia Witt, of Germany; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings except Lydia. The funeral service for Hugo will be Friday, June 29, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at St. Timothys Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Skarsten officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. TODAY at Menashas Westgor Funeral Home, and again from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service at the church. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum, Neenah. The family would like to express their thanks to Affinity Hospice for their care, help, and support given to Hugo and to them.
