JOYCE ZIMMERMAN

Joyce Betty Zimmerman age 96 formerly of Neenah, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 in Lakeville, MN. She was born September 4, 1915 to the late Winfred and Blanche Johnston. Betty grew up mainly in Johnson Creek, WI as the daughter of a small town doctor, driving him to house calls when she was old enough. She entered college at Carroll College in Waukesha, WI at age 16. She met her husband Paul there while studying dance and music. She and her family moved to Neenah, WI in 1948 and she raised a family of four boys, keeping the peace while also maintaining a firm upper hand. Her loves were reading (she could read a full novel in a day), golf, music, dance, and spending time with family at the cottage. She taught piano into her early 80s and continued to play piano and organ at the church and throughout the community well after that. She and Paul enjoyed and taught ballroom dancing for many years. She also danced with the Silver Foxes, a touring womens dance troupe, into her early 80s. She loved going for walks around Riverside Point and swam 3 times, weekly at the YWCA into her 80s. Her love for life and sense of humor will be missed by family and many at her church and in her community. Betty is survived by her four sons: Kurt (Jennifer); Winn; Roger (friend Florence Merl); and Tony (Mary Jursinovich); and her grandson, Isaak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; and her sister, Irene (Johnston) Boylan. A memorial service for Betty will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 4, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Neenah, Rev. Paul Huxtable officiating. Friends will be received at church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bettys name to First Presbyterian Church, Neenah.
