Obituary
Russell L. Mueller, age 85 of Neenah, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010. He was born January 28, 1925 to the late Albert and Pearl (Koenitzer) Mueller. On September 10, 1949, he married Ruth Gieser, who preceded him in death on May 6, 2005. Russell was a very active man, being engaged in our community since moving here in the 1950s. He was very well known in the local industry and was a founding force behind: Design Directions; the Military Veterans Museum; Ron Harder Gem and Mineral Gallery; and Big Portage Lake Riparian Owners Association (BPLROA). Russell was also a Paul Harris Fellow of Neenahs Rotary Club and a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Appleton. He was a proud Marine, having served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II and being stateside for the Korean War. He made a very happy life for himself and his family living in the valley and spending time at his cabin on Big Portage Lake. Russell is survived by three daughters: Kristine (David) Sexton; Karen (Michael) Cove; Kathleen Mueller; grandchildren: Russell (Shirlee Berman) Lord; Trevor (Tara) Lord; Alexis (Aron) Culotta; and an expected great-grandchild. He is further survived by a sister: Kathleen Woida; sister-in-law Joan Evans; and their families. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Appleton, Rev. Steve Savides officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Russells name may be made to Rotary International Foundation or BPLROA Inc. Environmental Contingency Fund, established to maintain the sustenance of water quality in Big Portage Lake.

I met this amazing man at the YMCA years ago while running the Cardiac exercise program in the afternoon and absolutely loved his spirit, radiant smile and compassion! My last visits were with my husband at Oakridge after his fall. He truly was from the "greatest generation". I will miss that smile and kiss on the hand!

Dave and Kris... I worked with your dad at Jewelers Mutual when we were just beginning the process of starting the Gallery. He was so sweet and so delightful to work with. Dear Family of Russ.....I first knew your father when he was the Lay Leader in the Neenah Methodist church. Later, after I married Roy, the friendship was renewed as he and Roy were both very active in the effort to form the Veteran's Museum.
