THELMA MEYER

Thelma Norene Meyer (Swisher), of Neenah, entered into eternal life on September 23, 2010. She was born in Stronghurst, Ill on July 17th, 1913. Thelma was the youngest and last surviving child of Oscar and Maude Swisher. She graduated from Union Grove High School and attended Oshkosh State Teachers College. She met Edward Meyer at a street dance in Winneconne and they were married two years later on June 19th, 1938. Thelma and Eddie enjoyed 61 wonderful years together before his death in 1999. They had two daughters; Joyce Nottleson-Moon, who passed away in 1993 and Cathryn (George) Strohmeyer. There are 3 grandchildren: Tina (Mark) Bachorz; Amy Searles; and Mike (Heidi) Strohmeyer; 8 Great-grandchildren: April Bachorz (Damon); Kristen (Tony Ross) Bachorz; Ryan Bachorz; Steven Searles; Michael Strohmeyer; Samuel Strohmeyer; Jack Henry Strohmeyer; and Benjamin Strohmeyer; 1 Great-great-granddaughter, Anna Joy Ross. Thelma worked as an insurance clerk at Equitable Reserve Association. She has been a member of Whiting Community Baptist Church since moving to Neenah in 1940. She was very involved in the life of the church teaching Sunday school and as a member of many women's groups. Thelma lived for 97 years and blessed all those who knew and loved her with her kind heart and loving ways. A celebration of Thelma's life will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. at Whiting Community Baptist Church 1020 Tullar Rd., Neenah, Rev. Jim Schmitz officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until the hour of service at church. The family would like to thank the care givers and friends at Kilkenny Cottage and ThedaCare Hospice workers who were especially kind and gave her comfort in her last days. A special thanks to Pastor Jim Schmitz for his spiritual guidance and prayers; and to Marge Strohmeyer for her loving friendship to Thelma for so many years. Thank you also to the church family for the visits and prayers. They meant so very much to Thelma and her family.
