ROBERT MELLENTHIN

Robert J. Mellenthin, age 81, of Menasha, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Oakridge Gardens. He was born on December 5, 1927 in Menasha; son of the late Edwin and Edna (Russell) Mellenthin. Robert was married to Marjorie J. Hamlin; she preceded him in death in 2008. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948; he served on the USS Fulton and the USS Sperry. Robert worked at American Can Company in Neenah for 33 years as a Printing Pressman and Pressroom Supervisor. He loved to fish, hunt, work in his garden, ride his bicycle and motorcycle and to camp in Bagley Rapids. During his retirement, he and Marjorie moved to Florida for 13 years where he loved to surf fish and pier fish. In 1997, Robert and Marjorie moved back to Wisconsin. Robert is survived by his daughter, Linda (Randy) Heule, Menasha; two sons: Robert (Jo Ann) Mellenthin, Neenah, Dennis (Dawn) Mellenthin, Pulaski; ten grandchildren: Robert (Haley) Mellenthin, Michael Mellenthin, Kerri (William) Slaasted, David (Penny) Mellenthin, Andrea (Nick) Shaffer, Michelle (Jacob) Elkins, Dan Mellenthin, Shane (Cheryl) Heule, Brent (Angela) Heule, and Bryan (Amanda) Heule; 12 great-grandchildren: Peyton, Madelyn, Raegan, Dylan, Parker, Brody, Mathew, Abilynn, Alexis, Wesley, Madison and Libby; as well as a sister, Helen Whitman. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joel Heule. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2009, 11:00 AM, at the Star of Hope Chapel in Highland Memorial Park with the Rev. David Skarsten officiating. The visitation will be on Monday at Star of Hope from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established by Robert's family to support Alzheimer's research. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Heartland Hospice, Oakridge Gardens and Dr. Steinlage. Dad, you will be sadly missed, but we know you are in a much better place now. We love you.
