THOMAS ZIMMER

Thomas R. "Zoom" Zimmer, age 65 of Neenah, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 22, 2015. He was born to Dorothea (Buchallik) and Cyril Zimmer on May 12, 1949. Tom lived a full and active life. His family admired him as a good son and bother. He was also a first-rate friend to all who knew him. As a child, one of Tom's proudest moments was being named the Easter Seal Society child, which allowed him to have a picture taken with Bart Starr who presented him with a football signed by Coach Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers. A proud graduate of UW-Stevens Point, who after receiving the Outstanding DNR Student for two consecutive years, Tom graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry with the dream of working for the DNR. After graduating, Tom had a career at Kimberly-Clark while being a dedicated volunteer and holding offices for the Safari Club International. He was the Handicapped Chairman for the Wisconsin DNR. He was also an active member of Challenging the Outdoors, the Wisconsin Bow Hunters, and the United Foundation for Disabled Archers. Tom loved anything to do with the outdoors and was especially fond of the time he spent at Hog Island. He was an avid wild game hunter with his prize trophy being a 520 pound black bear which was recorded as the 5th largest taken in Sawyer County with a gun from 1840 through 2008. Tom is survived by his mother, Doris Zimmer; his brother, Chuck (Sharon) Zimmer; his sister Marianne (David) Cherny; his niece Stacey (Todd) Galvin and their children, Clayton and Wyatt; and his nephews: Chad (Emily) Cherny and their children, Nolan and Parker; Jake Zimmer; and Craig Zimmer. He is further survived by his uncle, Wesley (Carol) Zimmer; and his aunts, Anne and Marie Zimmer as well as numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Cyril "Cy" Zimmer; his grandparents: Edward (Virginia) Zimmer and Ewald (Anna) Buchallik; his niece Gina Marie Cherny; and other aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 30, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 320 Nicolet Blvd, Menasha, Fr. Larry Hablewitz and Mary Krueger, Pastoral Leader, officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service. A luncheon will be served. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund to be designated by the family has been established.
