Obituary
Jean L. Haefs, of Neenah, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at The Bridges of Appleton. She was born October 24, 1931, in Neenah, daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Hochholzer) Kemp.
Jean graduated from Neenah High School in 1949. She married Merrill Sword on October 24, 1955. He preceded her in death in 1979. Jean then married David Haefs on May 24, 1986. He preceded her in death on August 11, 2016.
Jean was a wonderful mother and dedicated herself to raising her children. When they got older she worked in the Housekeeping department at Theda Clark Medical Center. Following her retirement she cared for her grandchildren and volunteered at her church, Christ the King Lutheran in Combined Locks, where she was a charter member. Jean was a member of the “Lady Bugs," a group of friends dedicated to outings, playing Chinese checkers and general shenanigans.
Survivors include her five children: Deborah (Bob) St. Cyr, Mollie Sword, Monica (Ron) Sword, Kim (Bruce) Banerdt, Dean (Samantha) Sword; two step-sons: Scott Haefs, Christopher Haefs, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Jean was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lena Rufus; a brother, James Kemp and her sister, June Keller.
A private memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for her church.
