DIONE NEWBY

Dione L. Newby, of Gurnee, IL, formerly of Neenah, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  She was born December 17, 1931, in Chicago, daughter of the late Russell and Vega Lawson. 

Dione attended Bowen High School in Chicago.  She then earned her BA in Nursing from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN, and then the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago.  Dione married Dr. Kenneth Newby on July 28, 1956.  He preceded her in death on January 22, 2015.

Dione was an active member for many years of Peace Lutheran Church and its LWML in Neenah.  She served on the Board of Directors for the Visiting Nurses Association. Dione loved family gatherings and relaxing at the family cottage up north.

Survivors include her three daughters: Cynthia (David) Daluga, Libertyville, IL; Gail (Bill) Beckmann, St. Charles, IL; and Ruth (Tom) Paquin, Green Bay; seven grandchildren: Ken and Laura Zillman, and Emily, Adam, Peter, Jason and Scott Daluga; a sister, Alcyone Dowling, Danville, CA; a sister-in-law, Carol (Rev. Ken) Hansen, Round Lake Beach, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dione was preceded in death by her sister, Brucia Greer, and a special aunt, Bernice Swanson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Peace Lutheran Church, 1228 S. Park Ave., Neenah, with Rev. Ricky Schroeder officiating.  The visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Peace Lutheran Church in her name.  Inurnment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
