Obituary
Judith Rebecca Bisel aged 63, passed away at 12:52 p.m., Thursday, November 19, 2015 following a six month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born the third child of the late Emil and Rebecca (Classon) Schmidli on October 24, 1952, she lived her whole life in Neenah, Wisconsin. She was baptized, confirmed, sang in the church choir, met her future husband, and was married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah, Wisconsin, the church of her parents and grandparents.
As a 1970 Neenah High School graduate, Judy attended UW-LaCrosse, UW-Oshkosh, and graduated from Fox Valley Technical Institute with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at Outagamie Heath Center before stopping to raise her family. She then worked two seasons as a crossing guard/traffic director at the corner of Cecil Street and Tullar Road in Neenah. In 1984 she was recruited by Kimberly-Clark Corporation as a founding member of the Sensory Profile Panel (SPP) and retired in June, 2015 after 31 years of service.
Judy was an avid reader of classical literature devouring book after book. She especially enjoyed the works of Thomas Hardy and Victor Hugo with a cup of her favorite beverage, Earl Grey tea. She always looked forward to “tea time” with her sister-in-law Diana and she thanks her for all the care during the last few months and always being there when needed.
Her real passion and expertise was the craft of crocheting. There were always several projects in process around the house. Her specialty was in crocheting intricate fisherman afghans which most were given away as gifts. She had recently taken up knitting and would like to make socks, kitchen dishcloths, and baby hats. She always noted that she liked the feel of natural fibers when she worked.
As a collector of Pyrex bowls, she would scour the flea markets and antique malls for bowls to complete yet another set of all the patterns she possessed...her pink set and the green dot being her most prized acquisitions. Judy was also an expert cutout cookie maker using these bowls, her decorated pumpkin, turkey, and Christmas cookies will be well remembered.
She loved carving Halloween pumpkins and searched for that perfect pumpkin for the face she was going to carve. The Christmas tree was another joy with the lights her duty in which she would spend hours getting them just right with the movie “Home Alone” playing in the background.
An interest in genealogy with her husband led her on many excursions to court houses and cemeteries looking for elusive ancestors. She was proud to have roots to the early 1600's New England and farther back to many of the noble houses of Europe.
She enjoyed family trips, cottage vacations, camping, as well as many bus tours across the country always collecting a souvenir patch from the sights she saw, noting that the Great Plains was her favorite place to see.
On May 13, 1978 she married Douglas Bisel who survives her. She is survived by her children Stefanie (Justin) Huebner, Black Earth, Wisconsin and Karl Bisel, Neenah. She has two grandchildren, Greta Huebner and Oliver Huebner. She is also survived by three brothers, Gregory (Diana) Schmidli, Neenah, David Schmidli, Neenah, and John Schmidli, Neenah.
The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 24 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 200 N. Commercial St., Neenah, with Rev. Sandra Crase officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home and again at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Block 33, Lot 23, Appleton, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
Judy's greatest wish was to be a great wife, mother, and grandmother and to this end, she was a success.
