Obituary
After several years of living with the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's, our mother quietly passed away Saturday, March 12.
Dora was born in McComb, Mississippi on January 9, 1924 to Ernest and Irene (Van Norman) Jenkins. Her family moved to Bessemer Alabama where she met her future husband Warren Neubauer while he was stationed at Fort McClellan – Anniston, Al. They were married on May 24, 1946. Together they raised 4 children. During Warren's career, the family lived in Wisconsin, Ohio, North Carolina and Alabama. Warren and Dora also spent several years in South Africa and Germany.
Our mother was very talented at count cross stitch. She loved to golf and play bridge with her close group of girlfriends. Gardening and feeding wild birds (especially hummingbirds) were also relaxing passions. Her children considered Dora a world class “shopper”. She served as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at Theda Clark. Her love for children lead her to serve as a “table parent” for the Wednesday night children's program at the First Presbyterian Church in Neenah. She was a steward to the elderly of First Presbyterian Church providing: home visitations, assisting in grocery shopping, and providing transportation for medical appointments.
The greatest joy of her life was spending precious time with her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren especially after she was no longer able to be in her own home. Joy radiated from her face when our Mother held her grand and great-grandbabies.
Dora is survived by her children, Ernest (Martha) Neubauer, Kristina (Peter) LeCompte, Frederick (Jill) Neubauer, and Cynthia (Pete) Weyenberg. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Ben (Cassie) Neubauer, Sam (Emilie) LeCompte, Maggie Weyenberg, Russ LeCompte, Katie (Luke) Brucks, Sally (Dennis) Horvath, Alison (Matt) Williams, David Neubauer and great-grandchildren, Claire, Henry, Delia, Quinn, CJ, Willy, and Jack.
Dora was proceeded in death by the love of her life, Warren, her parents Ernest and Irene Jenkins.
Our family would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire Valley VNA staff for the wonderful care they gave Dora during her last eight years. In addition, ThedaCare Hospice staff provided compassionate care and family guidance during her final days. The Neubauer Family will be forever grateful to all of you.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2016, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 200 Church St., Neenah, with Rev. Richard Moore officiating. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Youth Programs at First Presbyterian Church Neenah, Valley VNA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care, or the charity of their choice.
