After high school, Nick worked for H.L. Green and advanced to Assistant Manager just before joining the Army Air Force in August 1942. He served stateside in a Training Command until his discharge as a Sergeant from Fort Dix in February, 1946. On June 15, 1952, he married Helen S. Sapharas. In Oswego, NY, Nick opened a family restaurant with his father and brothers. He left there in 1955 and went to work for Pontiac Photo Engravers, which supplied printing plates for Marathon Corp. There he was also a member of the Oswego Rifle Club, Elks Club, American Legion, and a 3rd degree Mason with the Masonic Temple.
Nick and his family moved in 1962 when Marathon pulled out of Oswego. He obtained a job in the Graphic Arts Division in Neenah, and worked there until his retirement in 1991.
Nick enjoyed golf, bowling, wood working, pocket billiards, target shooting, fishing and photography. He also liked telling jokes and listening to music, which included big bands and especially Dixieland Jazz. During the CB Radio craze, Nick was known by all his friends as “Hot Iron,” suggested by his short game in golf. To his family and some close friends, he was also known as “Pancho.”
