MARY SPIELBAUER

Mary C. Spielbauer, age 87 of Neenah, passed away early Sunday, October 1, 2017. She was born December 29, 1929 to the late Joe and Jennie (Matschi) Kubasta in Oshkosh. On June 25, 1955 she married Norman J. Spielbauer. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2016.

Mary worked for many years as the Secretary to the Fire Chief at the Oshkosh Fire Department, and then became a teacher's aide at St. Margaret Mary Preschool. As an adult, she sought to fulfill her love of learning by enrolling in the Associate's Program at UW-Oshkosh, which she greatly enjoyed. She was a very involved member of the St. Margaret Mary Parish and attended over 60 retreats on Chambers Island through the Diocese from which she had very fond memories. She was an avid reader and loved finding mistakes in books. She also enjoyed traveling; camping in general was her favorite, but she treasured the family camping trips to the Smokey Mountains.

Mary had a great sense of humor that even she was a fan of. She shared many laughs (and tears) with her sister on their “special” bench at Kimberly Point in Riverside Park. She also shared and made many great memories with her two daughters on their special Mother's Day trips.

In the last year and a half, she enjoyed living at Emerald Ridge in Neenah, partaking in many activities and letting everyone know of her “rabid” Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger status.

Mary is survived by her children: Shari (Larry Myer) Blohm; Mary (Jim) Zelhofer; and Paul Spielbauer; her grandchildren: Jill (Dan) Myer-Wachowiak; Eddie (Brooke) Zelhofer; and Liz Spielbauer; as well as by her great-grandchildren: Nathan James Wachowiak; Revan James Zelhofer; and Baby Bean Wachowiak who will arrive in February. She is further survived by her sister, Ruth Spielbauer; and her in-laws: Carol Konetzke; Sister Mary Lee; Jackie Spielbauer; LeRoy and Sandy Spielbauer; and Mary Ellen Spielbauer; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norm; her brothers-in-law, Edgar; Bob; Don; Dick; Marvin; and Jim; by her sister-in-law, Esther; as well as by her dog, Shannon.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home, followed by a Prayer Service. Mary's family asks anyone attending to consider wearing their Packer or Badger gear. Visitation will continue Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 439 Washington Ave., Neenah from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., at which time a memorial service will be held with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating.
