FRANCIS GITTER

Francis Anthony Gitter, age 81, of Yuma, AZ and formerly of Appleton, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017.  He was born on December 2, 1935 in New London to the late Edwin and Burnette Gitter.  Frank graduated from high school in 1950 from St. Lawrence Seminary.  Frank went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Germany.  He also served his community with the Appleton Police Department from 1960 to 1989. 

Frank meant a great deal to all of those around him, especially his family.  He was always a great mentor and teacher.  Frank had a great sense of humor, he had a smile that could light up a room, and he was known to give big bear hugs.  He was also a very religious person who had a strong faith.  Frank was a talented handy man, and an avid Packers and Badgers fan.  He enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and Habitat For Humanity.  He was a joy to be around and was a typical stubborn Gitter.

Frank is survived by his longtime companion Evida Sundean; children Dennis (Sue) Gitter and Judy (Larry) Kitterman; grandchildren: Michael (Kate) Gitter, Meghan Gitter, Kara Gitter, Joseph Kitterman; and great-grandchildren Adelyn and Ariana.  He is also survived by his siblings: Rita Guzzetta, Tom (Louise) Gitter, Dick Gitter, Peter Gitter; sisters-in-law: Myrtle Gitter and Joan Gitter; and many nieces and nephews.  Frank is further survived by Evida's children: Daniel (Sheila) Gottbreht, Susan Ginn, Sonya Gottbreht, Serna (Ramon) Duarte; grandchildren Rocky and Samantha, in addition to 9 more grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Phil (Sandi) Gitter, Jim Gitter, Larry Gitter, Dave (Shirley) Gitter; brother-in-law Dominic Guzzetta; and sister-in-law Betty Gitter.

The Memorial Mass for Frank will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Gabriel Parish, 900 Geiger Street, Neenah with Rev. Richard Allen officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the mass.
