FRED SCHMIDT

Fred J. Schmidt, age 89, of Neenah passed away on Thursday morning, January 4, 2018 at ThedaCare Medical Center – Neenah.  He was born on January 24, 1928 in Neenah, Wisconsin son of the late Fred and Lucille (Pakalski) Schmidt.  Fred graduated from Neenah High School in 1946, after which he proudly served with the U.S. Army in Japan.  After his time in the service, Fred returned to Neenah and took a job as a press operator for George Banta Company.  His career at Banta ended in 1990, after 42 years, when Fred retired as the night shift Plant Superintendent.  Fred married Margaret E. “Maggie” Samson on November 24, 1950 in Dubuque, Iowa.  The couple would later renew their vows at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah.  Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, two sons, and 67 wonderful years.  Fred was a quiet man, whose presence was always felt by friends and family.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, camping, traveling, and fixing things; though nothing gave him more pride than his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He will truly be missed by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie; his daughters: Susan Morse, Waupaca; Laurie (Dennis) Baumann, DePere; RaeLynn (Bob) Pansy, Neenah; his sons: Rob (Teri) Schmidt, Neenah; Paul (Joann) Schmidt, Elkhorn, WI; his grandchildren: Brad, Chad, Zach, Danielle, Tricia, Josh, Andy, Amy, Brian, Allison; 10 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vida Schmidt, Neenah.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Paul and Karl Schmidt; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Raymond) Evans; and son-in-law Steve Morse.

A Memorial Service for Fred will be held on Monday, January 8, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home.  Friends will be received at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of service.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
