ARLINE GOERLITZ

Arline Marie Goerlitz, nee Basler, age 97.  Our Mom joined our Dad on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.  She was born March 3, 1924, on the family farm south of Oshkosh in the Town of Nekimi, the second of six children, daughter of the late Carl and Bernice (Silverthorn) Basler.

Our dad (Albert J. Goerlitz) and our mom were married on September 17, 1942. They had three children: Mary Beth, Albert “Albie”, and Paul. Dad preceded her to heaven in January 1999.

The schools Arline attended included Goldenrod (a one room rural school), Oshkosh High School, and Oshkosh Normal School.  She concluded her education graduating from Wisconsin State University – Oshkosh, with a degree in education.

Arline taught in many schools in the area, starting at Goldenrod, where she taught her brother and sister.  Her teaching career ended in the Neenah Schools.  She had a tender spot in her heart for the children with special needs.  

Besides teaching, music played an important part in all of our lives because she directed and sang in many choirs. Arline sang for weddings for 75 years. She played the piano and organ at many churches and to accompany many solos and ensembles.

School and music were important, but her faith, family and friends topped her priorities.  Her faith was intricately woven into her daily life and as a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Neenah.

Arline is survived by her three children: Mary Beth Bacon and her children:

Stephanie (Mike) Gonzalez, Carl (Kim) Bacon, Mark (Angela) Bacon

Albert C “Albie” (Peggy) Goerlitz and their children:

Theresa (Bryan) Frost, Anna (Josh) Syrycuk, Aleyna Goerlitz, Albert Goerlitz, Josiah Goerlitz

Paul (Beth) Goerlitz and their children:

Adam (Jodi) Goerlitz, Aaron (Laura) Goerlitz, Noah (Genevieve), Gretchen (Phil Miller) Goerlitz, Stefan Goerlitz, Amy (Ruben) Bourbois, Nathan Nelson

Her great-grandchildren:

Ray, William, Chloe, Brenna, Joey, Andrew, Gideon, Simon, Lillian

Caden, Linnaea, Adalia

Isaac, Evan, Mason, Maggie, Hazel, Agnes, August, Gabriel, Sabine, Laurelyn, Paul Solomon

Her sister-in-law Bea Laib and brother-in-law Richard Luft, and many nieces and nephews.

Arline was preceded in death by her son-in-law. Randy Bacon; father and mother-in-law: Philip and Elizabeth Goerlitz; brothers: Charles (Joyce) Basler, Warren (Pat) Basler, Larry Basler, Donnie Basler; a sister, Joan Basler; in-laws: Ann (Art) Rehbein, Emma (Henry) Weigandt, Hank (Fran) Goerlitz, Marie (Bud) Sorensen, Pauline (Albert) Binder, Mollie (George) Mohr, Grace (Harry) Lett, Wally (Marie) Goerlitz, Wally Laib, Norma Luft.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1140 Tullar Rd., Neenah, with Rev. Jon and Tabitha Gallatin officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 1:30 PM until the hour of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: the Albert J. and Arline M. Goerlitz Scholarship Fund through Neenah High School; Gloria Dei Lutheran Church; the Boys' and Girls' Brigade; or Special Olympics.

Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed live on Gloria Dei's YouTube page.
