Obituary

Leona Rose Popp went to be with her heavenly Father on February 11, 2023 at the age of 96. Daughter of the late Walter and Ruth (Ahrens) Wesener, she was born December 23, 1926 and was baptized, confirmed, and married to Marvin Popp at Rantoul Evangelical Church. Marvin preceded her in death, December 7, 1992.

Leona and Marvin moved to Neenah in 1947. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah where she was a member of the Women's Circle and choir. She also worked over 25 years at Neenah's voting polls. Leona retired from American Can in 1987. She loved to paint, crochet, embroider, wood working, crafts and gardening.

Leona is survived by her loving children: James (Judy) Popp; Robert (Beverly) Popp; Susan (Michael) Vander Linden; grandchildren: Jamie (Samantha) Popp; Scott (Jen) Popp; Chad (Bruna) Popp; Carrie (Ebben) Popp; Joseph (Tina) Vander Linden; Jessica (Andy) Koller; thirteen great-grandchildren, and one step-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sandra Wesener; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her sisters: Iva (Ray) Haelfrisch; Norma (Merlin) Plate; and brother, Walter Wesener, Jr.; by her in-laws: George, Sr.; and Minnie Popp; ten brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Leona will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak St., Neenah, with Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Leona will join Marvin at Appleton's Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Neenah Lutheran School or the American Cancer Society.

My father, Lloyd Habermann, and Leona spent many happy years together. They knew each other in high school and reconnected later in life! They found much joy in each other's company. It was a blessing for both of them. Leona was the kindest woman I have ever met. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. My condolences and love to her family. Laurel Menard

I used to walk every day and if I seen her in the garage, I stop and she’d always tell me a story she was the nicest woman you could ever meet. She will be missed by me. She was a angel.

Dear Susie Jim and Bob  I remember your mom with so much love.  She was like my favorite neighborhood mom.  I had the chance to spend some time with her years ago when my mom turned 90.   I feel so lucky to have done that.   She always had a smile and was such a genuinely kind person.  You’re all so lucky to have had her as long as you did ❤️❤️❤️❤️
