Obituary
John M. Andersen, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2018 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. He was born October 13, 1931, the youngest of four sons to Soren and Mary (Heiderer) Andersen of Lake Mills.
John married Phyllis Sell on January 6, 1955 in Watertown; they raised their three children and shared 56 years together before her death in 2011.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Always a champion of the underdog, following John's retirement in 1987 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, he was a valued volunteer at the St. Joseph Food Program and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a longtime member at St. Patrick's Parish in Menasha.
Survivors include: his two daughters, Mary Jones, and Karen (Mark) Boettner; five grandchildren; Emily (Brett DeFries) Jones, Jessica (Michael) Neil, Natalie Andersen, Caitlin (Jordan) Gunderson, and Max (Jennifer) Boettner; his great-granddaughter Alma Skye Neil; and his brother Karl (Carolyn Heidemann) Andersen.
In addition to his parents and wife Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his son Tom, his son-in-law Pete Jones, and his brothers Francis and Soren.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, at St. Patrick's Parish, Menasha with Fr. Jim Hablewitz and Pastoral Leader Mary Krueger officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
