VERNA GARIS

Verna P. (Judd) Garis, 96, of Neenah, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 American Grand Assisted Living, 900 Meadow Lane, Neenah.  Born on October 9, 1921 in Hellertown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob M. Judd and Valeria (Wasser) Judd.  Verna married her late husband, John J. Garis, Jr. on July 4, 1942 in Lower Saucon Twp., PA.

John and Verna moved to Neenah in the late 1960s. She was a retired school teacher specializing in teaching reading in the Neenah Joint School District. Verna and her husband were members of the First United Methodist Church, Neenah, WI where she sang in the church choir. She was also active with the Neenah YMCA Y Knots. Verna enjoyed traveling with her husband across the country and gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a deep love for her family.

Verna had a joyous spirit. She brought happiness to everyone that crossed her path. She would warm your heart with a quick smile and a laugh that was infectious. She had a carefree, lighthearted presence that brought grace to your day, and empathy that made being with her a true blessing.

Verna is survived by a son, Eric (Caroleen); a daughter, Dorothy Rippl; four grandchildren: Jason (Marnie) Rippl; Justin (Alicia) Rippl; Brian (Erin) Garis; and Christina (Andy) Garis Ehrhard and; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Verna will be held at American Grand Assisted Living, 900 Meadow Ln, Neenah at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, May 14, 2018. Inurnment will be at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton, Pa., at a future date.
