CALVIN MACE

Calvin K. Mace, of Oshkosh, age 94 passed away peacefully at Brewster Village in Appleton, on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  He was born August 29, 1923 in Neenah, son of the late Kenneth and Gladys (Jorgenson) Mace.

Calvin married Sarah Cowles on March 3, 1947, enjoying 71 years of marriage. Calvin loved his family with all his heart and was always known to say “I am always here to support you, no matter what happens, good or bad”.  His wife Sarah was his strength and soul mate and family was everything.

Calvin pursued his passion in aviation all his life. Calvin served in the USAF during WWII as a fighter pilot, and retired from the reserve as Maj. Calvin K. Mace. He continued work as a corporate and instructor pilot, and was Vice President of Mace Laboratories in Neenah.  Calvin also was an avid fisherman and hunter as a member of the Poygan Land Company. A beloved Labrador Retriever was often found at his side either in the field or at the family dinner table.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah residing in Oshkosh WI and three children: Thomas (Nancy Krueger) Mace residing in Menasha WI, Barbara (Edward) Mace Hampton residing in Oshkosh WI, Marie (Michael) Mace Poppenwimer residing in Carefree AZ.  Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survived Calvin.

A graveside private service will be held June 8, 2018 with Military Honors at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Neenah.  In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name at the EAA Museum, Oshkosh to honor his passion for aviation.
