Obituary
Henry “Hank” Pausig, of Neenah, age 86, died Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1929 in Oshkosh, son of the late Henry W. Charlotte (Bovee) Pausig.
Hank was raised in Oshkosh and graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1948. In 1947 he was selected to the Fox Valley Conference First Team All-Conference as a guard and linebacker and was named Honorary Captain of his team. He was also a First Team All-State selection that year. Hank had many opportunities to further his education through football scholarships, but selected not to do so, and many times over the years he regretted that decision somewhat. But life goes on he'd say.
Hank played semiprofessional football for the Oshkosh Comets in 1949, their first year in the league. That year they went undefeated and won the Championship. He was so proud of that and also being able to play football alongside his brother, Ken “Tex” Pausig.
Hank married Delores Carlton and she preceded him in death in 1994.
Hank was a successful McNess door-to-door salesman for 40 years. He respected and loved his customers and referred to them as his friends. They made his job enjoyable to do.
Hank enjoyed taking care of his home and yard; going to San Francisco to visit his friends; going to North Dakota to visit his brother Tex and his family; and visiting the Black Hills in South Dakota, the Rocky Mountains and going over the Beartooth Pass in Montana. Hank really loved the mountains. The family reunions in earlier years with the Pausig and Bovee families were truly things he enjoyed doing.
Hank often said: The Lord said come forth, but I came in fifth! It was a muddy track, but a damn good race. I finally came in fourth!
Hank was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and had served in the Wisconsin National Guards.
Survivors include his three children: Kathleen Ann (Richard) Klesmit, Debra Lyn (Rick) Ertl, Rocky Henry Pausig; a grandson, Richard Klesmit Jr; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores (Robert) Gibson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his very special neighbors and friends, Blong and Pang Yang and their family. They were always there for him.
Hank was preceded in death by his son, Steven; and his brother, Kenneth ‘Tex' Pausig.
A graveside service will be held in the spring for Hank at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in his name for St. Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah.
