Obituary
Daniel M. Rau, age 76, was given the crown of life on September 12, 2018 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on August 13, 1942 to Angus and Miriam (Grutzmacher) Rau. He was welcomed into God's family through Holy Baptism on September 20, 1942.
On June 19, 1971, he married Emily Borchert. Together they were blessed with four children: Deborah (Shawn) Kienert, Neenah; Rev. David (Jennifer) Rau, Burnsville, MN; Robert (Christine) Rau, Jackson, WI; and Lisa (Scott) MacWilliam, Fishers, IN; six grandchildren: Logan Kienert; Brianna, Kayley, and Emma Rau; Tristan and Carson Rau.
Dan served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He worked as a photographer for the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern for 10 years and enjoyed covering the Packer games at Lambeau Field. After that, he worked at paper mills, eventually retiring from Neenah Paper in 2007. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and eating out every Friday night at the Golden Corral.
Besides his wife, children, and grandchildren, Dan is survived by a sister, Patricia Riedel, Appleton; and a sister-in-law, Karen (Robert) Manteufel, Neenah; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Irma Borchert; brothers-in-law, David Riedel and Myron Borchert; and sister-in-law, Ellamae Borchert.
The Christian funeral for Dan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15th at Martin Luther Church, 436 S. Lake St., Neenah. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
