FRANK MUEHLENBEIN

Frank C. Muehlenbein, age 84, passed away with his daughter at his side after a lengthy battle with Parkinsonism on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Gardens of Fountain Way Assisted Living.  He was born December 14, 1933, to the late Andrew and Anna (Bayer) Muehlenbein, in Appleton.  Frank has been reunited in Heaven with the love of his life and best friend, Alice (Pagel) Muehlenbein.

Frank was married to Alice for 58 years until her death on April 10, 2013. He was devoted to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.

He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School. He served in the National Guard for 9 years, while building their family. Frank was employed at American Can, working his way up as an electrician to foreman and supervisor. He loved fixing things, never sitting still and always wanting to show his grandchildren how things worked. Frank taught his children and grandchildren the power of work ethic, integrity, and common sense. His sense of humor and quiet strength were well known to everyone he met.

Frank was the best dad and grandpa around, attending each band performance, Boy and Girl Scouts trip, and every milestone they had. He was a patient and thorough teacher, teaching his children and grandchildren “lots of things.”

He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, with an encyclopedic knowledge throughout his life. He loved to watch the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers, and his granddaughters even converted him to Marquette basketball.

He loved to spend time traveling with his family, and often spent time with his wife, children, and grandchildren at their cottage in Townsend, Wisconsin, a cottage he built himself.  He would spend time fishing, boating, golfing, and bowling. Some of his proudest moments were his two holes-in-one. He was a leader in his parish, St. Mary's in Menasha, serving as parish council chairperson and cemetery board chairperson. His faith was extremely important to him, which he lived through his involvement in the Knights of Columbus, where he was both an active member in the local council as well as the Fourth Degree Knights.

Survivors include his three children: Andy Muehlenbein, Larry (Sandy) Muehlenbein, Karen (Joe) Fahley; seven grandchildren: Sarah (Mark) Schroeder, Stephanie and Bradley Muehlenbein, Michael (Carissa) Muehlenbein, Alisha, Alaina and Katie Fahley; and great-grandchild, Vada Muehlenbein. He is also survived by siblings: Marcella Peterson, Helen Slinger, John (Mickey) Muehlenbein, and sister-in-law, Ione Muehlenbein. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice, parents, Andrew and Anna, siblings, Agnes (Lawrence) Kohl, Robert (Bev) Muehlenbein, Margaret (Jim) Harness, Paul Muehlenbein, and Joe Muehlenbein; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Peterson.

Visitation will be at Westgor Funeral Home, Menasha on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m.  There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 528 Second St., Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating.  Visitation will be also be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

The family is grateful to the many people who provided Frank with such good medical care over the years, including the staff at Gardens of Fountain Way and ThedaCare at Home. We know that his life was full because of your care and compassion.
