DANIEL SCHMIDT

Daniel K. Schmidt, age 98, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on October 10, 2018 at Prairie Home Assisted Living – House of Joy in Menasha.  He was born in Neenah on March 25, 1920 to Otto and Alvina (Hintz) Schmidt.

Dan attended Neenah High School and was Captain of the 1938/1939 Rocket basketball team that took second at the State Tournament in Madison.  Following high school, he joined the Navy and spent four years on the aircraft carrier CV4 Ranger.  His service included operations in both the Atlantic and Pacific.  On May 27, 1944 Dan married Dorothy Domnie at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah while on a 15-day military leave.  After Naval discharge in October of 1945, Dan and Dorothy built a home in Neenah and Dan started a career with the U.S. Postal Service.  They were blessed with daughters Gail and Jody.  Retirement in July of 1978 presented an opportunity for Dan and Dorothy to focus on a new chapter in their lives.  They became “great walkers” and enjoyed traveling in the United States, Hawaii, and Europe. 

Dan is survived by his daughter Gail (Dean) Anderson, five grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and daughter Jody (Bud) Gadow along with his parents and siblings.

Per Dan's wishes, there will not be a funeral.  A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
