Obituary
Edna Mae (Schoepel) Smith, daughter of Doris and Irwin Schoepel, was born on June 10, 1935 and passed away surrounded by family on December 31, 2018. She graduated from Menasha High School in 1953 and married Garland George Smith on January 9, 1954, son of Douglas and Marian Smith. They were married for 64 years.
Edna worked at Marathon Corporation upon graduating from high school and worked 22 years as the secretary at Spring Road Elementary School, Neenah, and retired in 1991.
She fought her health battles throughout the years with grace and dignity. Before she became ill, she enjoyed camping with her children, grandchildren and friends throughout Wisconsin. She enjoyed traveling in the motor home with her husband and the Honey Bee Motor Home Club touring much of the U.S. and Canada.
She is survived by her four children: Steve (Shawn); Randal; Greg; and Carrie (Russell) Carr; six grandchildren: Sarah (Erik) Carlson; Ryan (Cierra) Smith; Joshua Smith; Jessica Smith; Jason Carr; Kristi (Joshua) Bradley; Kait (Jake) Vande Walle; and nine great grandchildren: Taylor and John Carlson; Cameron and Kannen Bradley; Kira Wichman; Dolly and Dennis Vande Walle; Remy and Zoey Smith.
Her surviving siblings are Shirley Ruby; Tom (Judy) Schoepel; Connie (Don) Stark; and sister-in-law Judy Schoepel and her in-laws, Beverly Smith, Donna (Harley) Kopitske and Perry (Veronica) Smith.
She is preceded in death by grandson Andrew Smith; brother Ron Schoepel; brother-in-law Richard Ruby; brothers-in-law, Don Smith and Devon Smith; and sister-in law Marvel Buksyk.
Special thanks to Dr. Phillips, staff and nurses at Theda Care's Infusion Center for their loving care, compassion and patience. Also many thanks to the people who donated blood to the Fox Cities Community Blood Center and she encourages people to give blood and donate eye corneas.
Also special thanks to the Theda Care Outpatient IV girls Kathy, Amy, Wendi, Vicki, Cindy and Tiffany and the Theda Care Hospice nurses Jessica, Lorraine, Kathy and Hannah for all of the help they provided the family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
