RICHARD MCCRORY

Richard C. McCrory, age 82, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Neenah.  He was born on January 12, 1936 in Marinette, WI, the son of the late Edward C. and Myrtle (Johannes) McCrory.  Richard graduated from Neenah High School and UW-Wisconsin before joining the U.S. Navy in 1959.  During his time in the Navy, he proudly served his country for 22 years before retiring as a Commander.  While Richard was in the Navy, he was commissioned as a Navy Supply Corp. Officer, on the USS Farragut and he was stationed in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Glenview, IL.  Upon leaving the service, Richard returned to Neenah where he resided for the rest of his life. 

Richard had two passions near and dear to his heart.  First, was the Doty Island Development Council where he was very involved and active in its many activities.  Nearly everyone on the Island knew him through his service to the organization.  Second, was the Oshkosh Veterans Museum.  He spent many hours volunteering his time and was instrumental in its progress over the past 25 years. He also enjoyed being an active participant in the Neenah City council meetings.

He is survived by his two sisters, Joanne Rilling of Richmond, VA and Patricia (Leonard) Silverman of Wausau, WI; niece, Cheryl (Chris) Eplett of Beaver Dam, WI; nephews: Steven (Barb) Silverman of Merrill, WI, Geoffrey (Joanne) Rilling of Soquel, CA, and Andrew (Meghan) Rilling of Winter Park, FL; cousin, Mary Rolfson of Appleton, WI; longtime friend, Mark Lange of Neenah, WI; as well as 3 great-nieces, 2 great-step nephews, other cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law. 

Richard's family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah for the outstanding care given to him during his last days.  Additional thanks go to Atrium Nursing Home in Neenah for all of their compassionate care.

The Funeral Service for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 809 S. Commercial Street, Neenah with Rev. Dennis Ellisen officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.  He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Oshkosh Veterans Museum, or the Doty Island Development Council.
