ENICE POLLNOW

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Enice Ida (Metzig) Pollnow passed away peacefully on February 1, 2019 at the age of 98 at the Valley VNA, Neenah. Enice was born April 15, 1920 on the family homestead in Zittau, Town of Wolf River to Esther and August Metzig. She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Oshkosh to earn her RN degree. While in nursing school she was smitten by a young basketball player who had broken his leg during a game. In 1943 she would marry this basketball player, Milton Pollnow. After nursing school she went to work for the VNA. She loved this job because it was different every day and she got to travel helping many wonderful people. When Milton returned home from WWII they purchased a home in Neenah, where they lived in for 67 years and raised 3 children. Enice loved being a homemaker and caring for her family. She loved her garden and her flowers were the showcase of the neighborhood. Enice and her husband had a huge garden, so there were always lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, many of which she preserved for the long winter months. She continued to work in that garden until her early 90's. Enice also loved to read, journal, and share inspirational messages with her children who lived on both sides of the United States. Traveling to see their children and grandchildren, as well as exploring most of the United States, became a part of Enice and Milton's regular routine in retirement. In later years her bible study group and friends were a source of friendship and laughter.

She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Milton Pollnow, children Jill Kimball (Nick  Jewett) of Poulsbo, WA; Jan (Georgia) Pollnow, of Seven Lakes, NC; daughter-in-law Linda Pollnow, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; 9 grandchildren, and 15 great- grandchildren. Enice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Quintin Metzig, and her son, Russ Pollnow.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah or the Valley VNA of Neenah. A special thank you to the dedicated and caring staff at the Valley VNA and Hospice Care of Neenah.
