RICHARD MASON

Richard P. “Dick” Mason, age 81, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Bethany Home is Waupaca.  He was born July 20, 1939 in Neenah, son of the late Paul and Stella (Baird) Mason.

Dick worked as an electrician for more than 40 years, being a member of Local Union 577, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.  He proudly served in the US Army Reserves.  Dick married Carol Nobbe on June 30, 1962.  She preceded him in death on December 26, 1996.

Dick had a lifelong interest in archaeology and soon after their marriage Carol became interested in it.  Both of them, as avocational archaeologist, received Increase A. Lapham medals from the Wisconsin Archaeology Society.  Carol earned a Master of Science (anthropology) degree in 1994.  In 2000 Dick was presented the Society of American Archaeology Crabtree Award for his “active support and collaboration with professional archaeologists, to the lasting benefit of the prehistoric archaeology of Wisconsin.”

Dick is survived by his two sons: Alan Paul (Alianor True) Mason, Brian Richard (Dawn) Mason; three grandchildren: Stella True Mason, Samuel Alan Mason and Marissa Carol Mason; as well as a niece; nephews; cousins; and a special friend, Ramona Fountain.

Dick was preceded in death by his siblings: June Muntner, Roy Mason and Mary Lark.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held.  In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
