EVERETT WOODS

Obituary

Everett D. Woods, who preferred the nickname “Woody”, died on March 31,2023, before reaching his 94th birthday. He was born in Memphis, TN, on August 7, 1929, the only son of a well-known architect and grandson of a Presbyterian Minister. His two sisters proceeded him in death. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

After graduating from college with an Electrical Engineering degree, Woody served in the U.S. Navy, and the Korean War. For a while, he worked in his father's office, but his true love was the theater, especially musicals. For years he volunteered his help at the theater in Memphis, working mostly backstage, building sets, and taking on all sorts of jobs to prepare for performances. He also sang in a few shows.

Soon after he moved to Neenah in 2009, he joined First Presbyterian Church and our choir. He had an excellent baritone voice and loved to sing. He had and played the piano before he moved into senior housing, and he loved music of all sorts, often going to concerts at Lawrence University and some local high school musicals with another choir member. Even after his mild dementia ended his choir singing, he still liked to sit with the choir on Sunday mornings. He also regularly attended a variety of church events. He rode his bicycle to get around and to run errands, even riding into Appleton in good weather. Many of you may remember seeing him riding along wearing his signature leather hat. Because of his background in architecture, he often noticed different or special architectural features on the buildings and homes he passed, and he was happy to point them out to anyone interested.
