Obituary
Roger J. Rasmussen, age 86, passed away peacefully at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, WI, on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born March 21, 1930 in Green Valley, Wisconsin, son of the late Peter and Emma (Weiss) Rasmussen.
Roger was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea where he earned a Purple Heart and three bronze hearts, United Nations Service Medal and Merit Unit Commendation.
He married Henrietta Schwandt on July 1, 1961 at Calvary Baptist Church Neenah, WI. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2009. Roger was employed with the Bergstrom/Glatfelter Paper Co. over 25 years until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, riding bike, trout fishing, and spending time at the cottage in Mountain, WI.
Survivors include his five children: Sally Rasmussen and her fiancé, Mike Grunske, Bruce (Mia) Rasmussen, David Rasmussen, Lynn (Rick) Kelpinski, Todd (Alice) Rasmussen; five grandchildren: Shane and Joshua Rasmussen, Alyssa Morgan, Casey (Hayley) Kelpinski, Lindsay Kelpinski; a great-granddaughter, Raina Rasmussen; his twin sister, Mary Joan Hansen; a brother-in-law, Laverne (Joan) Schwandt; and two sisters-in-law: Judy Schwandt, Faye Stroud.
Roger was preceded in death by a grandson, Robbie.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2016, at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. Full military honors will follow the service with the Neenah/Menasha Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Roger's name.
