Obituary
Walter (“Walt”) L. Ulbricht, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Walt was born on April 1, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to Walter P. and Brigitte (Steidl) Ulbricht.
He moved to Kenosha when he was in third grade and promptly met the love of his life, Peggy Arrowood – from third grade on, they have been inseparable. On August 7, 1971, he married Peggy, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Walt had a lifelong passion for learning and communication. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Parkside and his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Over the course of his career, he worked in communications and public relations for several higher education institutions, including the University of Wisconsin–Extension, Empire State College, the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science. Through his work, he helped tell the stories of students, faculty, and institutions, and he believed deeply in the transformative power of education.
Following his retirement, Walt continued sharing his love of learning by teaching and facilitating adult education classes. He also served as Winnebago County Supervisor, where he remained committed to public service and the community he cared deeply about.
Walt enjoyed genealogy, traveling, and exploring new places as well as new restaurants. He treasured time with family and friends and was known for maintaining lifelong connections. He even stayed in touch with friends from grade school and delighted in organizing gatherings that brought them back together over the years.
Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Ulbricht; his daughter, Alissa (Troy) Beyer; his son, Kurt Ulbricht; his grandsons, Jacek and Tycen Beyer; and his brother, Bob Ulbricht. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Brigitte Ulbricht, and his sister Barbara Egenberger.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Menasha first responders for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
Walt will be remembered for his warmth, intellect, inquisitive nature, and the many relationships he nurtured throughout his life. His legacy of curiosity, connection, and service will live on in all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 until 11:45 am on Saturday March 21, 2026, at Westgor Funeral Home, 1140 Appleton Road, Menasha, WI.
