GORDON EVANSEN

Gordon T. Evansen, Gordy , of Neenah, age 85, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013, at Prairie Homes in Menasha. He was born March 28, 1928 in Cayuga, WI, the youngest of 13 children, son of the late Thorvald and Sigrid (Simonsen) Evansen. Gordy graduated from Glidden High School in 1945. He joined the Army Air Force and was stationed in Salinas, KS working in a ground control radar unit, helping train bomber pilots for night and bad weather take-offs and landings. Gordy married Cecile Nault on August 27, 1955. He retired in 1991 from Bergstrom-Glatfelter Paper Mill where he worked as a computer programmer. Gordy enjoyed golfing, bowling and reading westerns. Gordy was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Cecile; eight children: David (Janet) Evansen, Joan (Paul) Herder, Russ (Mary) Evansen, Laura (Dave) Nelson, Gerald (Kristi) Evansen, Andrew (Laura) Evansen, Paul (Ann) Evansen, Ryan (Aleja) Evansen; 22 dearly loved grandchildren; a brother, Richard Evansen, Cayuga, WI; four sisters-in-law: Vesta Evensen, Marianne Evensen, Jeanette Kraus, Ardys Nault; and many nieces and nephews that he loved as well. Gordy was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. A private graveside service will be held for the family with full Military Rites at St. Margarets Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all of Gordys caregivers at Prairie Homes House of Grace.
