Obituary

Gina Marie Thompson   October 28, 1959 - October 10, 2020

Gina Thompson of Neenah found Eternal Peace on October 10, 2020 at the age of 60 surrounded by family. Survived by her adoring husband of 33 years, Charles (Chuck) Thompson. Loving and caring mother of sons Alexander (Alex) and Nicholas (Nikko) Thompson.  Gina was preceded in death by her parents Carlo and Audray DeRubertis.  Loving sister of Sandra Hafemann (Gerald), Michael DeRubertis (Joann), Andrew DeRubertis (Nancy) and Carla Shircel (Thomas) Niece to Rosemary DeRubertis.  Also survived by caring in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many dear friends.

Gina lived all 60 years of her life to the fullest.  She met the “Love of Her Life” Chuck Thompson while attending The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She loved to remind him that he called her “Mary” when he asked her out for their first date at the UWM Student Union. She accepted the dinner date and politely corrected him with her name.  After they were married, they moved to Minneapolis MN.  Years later they found their way back home to Neenah, Wisconsin.

They traveled throughout many states, a family vacation to Jamaica, but absolutely loved Door County.

Gina graduated from Shorewood High School and completed her Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from UWM. Her Philosophy degree came in handy when settling family debates and solving the world's problems. Gina also worked at Palermo Villa while perusing her degree. Her co-workers soon became “family”.  Years later she worked part time at the PAC in Appleton while working full time at Kimberly Clark.  She eventually dedicated all of her time to KC/Compass Group. She loved every person she met or touched in life.

She was an absolutely loving and beautiful lady who lit up any room she entered with her special greeting “Hello Hello Hello”.  Her friendly and outgoing nature rewarded her with many dear and close friends.

Gina's lifelong passion was planning occasions and keeping family tradition alive.  She was always the first one in the kitchen at every family gathering and made sure that everything was “just so”.  She had a tremendous ability to create an atmosphere filled with family pride, tradition and love.  From perfect tablescapes, scratch made dishes, seating arrangements to flawless desserts, her love was contagious. She also spent her time learning and documenting her family history so that she could pass on her family legacy.

Gina loved new opportunities and even challenged others to join in. She persuaded sons Alex, Nikko, Sister Carla and her husband Thomas to audition as extras in a locally produced movie No God No Master. They spent tireless hours on set together and had Gina to thank for their once in a lifetime “fame” that premiered in movie theatres.

She was always on the go and a determined fighter. She amazed her doctors as she rebounded from every challenge she met. Her strength and determination spoke to others as a reminder to live the “gift of each day” to the fullest.

We will all miss this amazing lady.

Due to COVID a private family ceremony will be held and interment to follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
