TODD LYGHT

On December 11, 2020, the Lord called Todd Douglas Lyght home where he will be reunited with many loved ones. He was born into a large and loving family on January 30, 1967, the second youngest of 14 children of Clifford and Lois Lyght.  

Todd attended Boscobel High School, graduating in 1985.  He was diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy while in high school. As the disease progressed, it affected his heart and respiratory functions as well as causing some mobility issues. Those who knew Todd thought of him as a caring and kind person who thought of others before himself. MD did not define Todd. We never heard him ask “Why me?”  It is possible this disability made him more aware of the need to treat others how you would like to be treated. 

One of Todd's favorite pastimes was just sitting and talking. He loved to reminisce about things that happened while growing up. Watching old tv shows was another pastime he enjoyed. He liked Happy Days, and Gunsmoke, but Andy Griffith was his all-time favorite. He had an uncanny ability to quote lines from the show, especially those of Barney. He also loved reading and discovering new authors to keep him entertained.  Receiving a new book would bring a smile to his face. Todd enjoyed music and was a big fan of The Beach Boys. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed Marilyn Kinder's apple pies as well as most types of candy and dessert. 

Todd possessed a great dry wit, a phenomenal memory, and an absolute, unconditional love for his family. He leaves us with wonderful memories and several “Todd-isms”.  We will never forget him. 

Todd is survived by his mother, Lois Lyght; three sisters: Lana McVay, Kathy (Jerry) Bray, and Kitti Richter; three brothers: Gil (Dixie) Lyght, Jay (Mary) Lyght and Brad (Lisa) Lyght; His two nieces: Kelly (Lee) Lathrop, Lisa (Matt) Roherty; and seven nephews: Tom (Hollie) McVay, Marc McVay, Scott Lyght (fiancé Megan Stelse), Derek (Emily) Lyght, Tyler Lyght (fiancé Kylie Kaltenberg), Jordan (Shreya) Richter and Jared Richter (Tara Detlof) will all remember what a great uncle Todd was. He watched his nieces and nephews grow up and loved them as if they were his own. Todd is further survived by 10 great nieces and nephews. He was always happy to hear stories of what they were up to and looked forward to seeing them when possible. 

Todd has been reunited with many family members who preceded him in death. These include his dad Clifford Lyght; three sisters:  Barbara Potter, Judy, and Jill Lyght and four brothers: Stephen, Larry, Michael, and Alan Lyght; two nephews: Danny and Chad Potter; two nieces: Rachelle and Richelle Richter; and brother in-law Eric Richter, as well as both his maternal and paternal grandparents.  

Todd's family would like to thank the staff at the Jack and Engrid Meng hospice facility for their care of Todd during his last two months.

A small family service will be held for Todd at a future date.
